Zwitter Matjaž

Prof. Matjaž Zwitter, MD, PhD is a consultant in oncology and radiotherapy. During 41 years of his work at the Institute of Oncology in Ljubljana, he covered a broad spectrum of activities. When serving as the director of the Institute (1991-1995), his role was crucial in implementation of plans for an urgently needed renovation. He later returned to work with patients and to clinical research. His bibliography includes publications on malignant lymphomas, pediatric oncology, lung cancer, mesothelioma, brain tumors, cancer of unknown origin, ethics of clinical research, and ethical issues at the end of life. After retiring as a physician, he continues to serve as the Head of the Department of Medical Ethics and Law, Medical Faculty, University of Maribor. His extensive bibliography includes 50 papers included in the PubMed database. He was co-editor of two books on communication: Communication with the cancer patient: information and truth (The New York Academy of Sciences 1997) and New challenges in communication with cancer patients ( Springer 2013). He also wrote and published three books: Talking about medical ethics (in Slovenian language, Cankarjeva založba 2018), Medical Ethics in Clinical Practice (Springer 2019) and Talking on euthanasia (in Slovenian language, Slovenska matica 2019).
