Časar Zdenko
Zdenko Časar is a Head of Early Stage Development in the pharmaceutical company Lek d. d. and a senior research associate at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana. He graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, UL. He holds a PhD in co-mentorship from the Ecole Doctorale Sciences de la Matière, Université de Rennes 1 in organic chemistry and from the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the University of Maribor in chemical technology. He completed postdoctoral training between 2003-2004 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, UL. The main area of his work and research is synthetic chemistry focused on the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients. During his career at Novartis, dr. Časar was the Head of various departments at the Sandoz Development Center Slovenia, where they are developing a number of the most difficult projects for complex medicines. In addition, he was also Sandoz’s Head of Global Portfolio Management in Austria. He was the first Slovene to receive the highest Novartis scientific honor, the Distinguished Scientist Award, for his work in the field of development and research at Novartis. He is also the recipient of the state Puh Award for important achievements in the field of active pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis. Dr. Časar is also a full professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ljubljana.
