Publication of Sustainable Development Goals: between Utopia and Reality

June 03, 2024

At the end of May, at the second interdisciplinary roundtable, ASEF published a collection of papers on the Sustainable Development Goals: between Utopia and Reality, as a result of the ASEF Tutorial Program for the academic year 2022/2023.

Publication contains six contributions from the fields of computer science, biochemistry and chemistry, finance, biology and medicine, physics and mathematics, and arts and social sciences. All the contributions are linked by a common theme – utopia and its role in shaping reality.

In the introduction to the proceedings, Dr Rok Sekirnik, Head of the ASEF Tutorial Program, presents the work of the programme and the choice of the topic for the academic year 2022/2023. Peter Rožič, co-founder of ASEF and Director of the Research Network for Integral Ecology, summarizes the programme’s outstanding contribution to advancing the field of sustainable development in his keynote address.

During the academic year 2022/2023, the Junior Fellows worked within tutor groups in various fields under the watchful eye of tutors: Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Gregorič (Finance group), Ana Ramovš, MD (Biology and Medicine group), Prof. Dr. Zdenek Časar (Biochemistry and Chemistry group), Prof. Dr. Ivan Bratek (Computer Science group), Prof. Robert Dolinar (Arts and Social Sciences group) and Prof. Dr. Saša Grozdanov (Physics and Mathematics group).

The proceedings are the result of the successful implementation of the ASEF Tutorial Program, which ASEF introduced in Slovenia in 2020, following the example of foreign universities with a centuries-long tradition of tutoring. Based on regular meetings and round table discussions, ASEF Junior Fellows and tutors have put together a quality publication that they can be proud of.

The collection of papers was published by ASEF with the support of the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth.
