Amalia Blood

Amalia Blood is a third-year undergraduate student at Barnard College of Columbia University, where she is majoring in Economics (Political Economy Track) with a minor in Political Science.

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Amalia’s love for Slovenia and Slovenian culture began young and was fostered through her experiences in Slovenian language school at St. Vitus Parish, summers at Slovenska Pristava, and interactions with Slovenian culture through her grandmother, Milena Stropnik. She’s looking forward to exploring her heritage this summer by reconnecting with family, traveling to Slovenia, and learning the Slovenian language. She intends to use her research this summer for her senior thesis and looks forward to presenting to the Columbia University community about Slovenia.

After graduating from Columbia, Amalia hopes to work in investment banking, and has accepted a summer 2024 internship at KeyBanc Capital Markets in their Utilities, Power, and Renewable Energy Group as an analyst. Amalia will conduct her research visit under the mentorship of Dr. Gorazd Meško, Head of the Institute of Criminal Justice and Security at the University of Maribor, Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security.
