
Josip Car
Professor Josip Car is a physician-scientist and academic leader in Population and Digital Health Sciences, with a track record in clinical practice, academic research, and executive healthcare leadership. Dr. Car has been leading and researching on digital transformation of health systems, digital therapeutics, and health AI working amongst others with the WHO, governments, and industry. As Director of King’s Population Health Institute and Head of the School of Life Course & Population Sciences at King’s College, he oversees a faculty addressing key challenges in population health and health systems globally. As Director for Population Health at King’s Health Partners, he spearheads initiatives that integrate health care and research to enhance population health outcomes. Dr. Car was a General Practitioner for over twenty years, has held leadership roles in Singapore and the UK, including Founding Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Digital Health and Health Education, Director of Public Health, Primary and Integrated Care at Imperial College Healthcare, Director of NIHR Primary Care and Comprehensive Research Network for London (NW), and Director of the Global Digital Health Unit.
Dr. Car has contributed to national and international guidelines and policy documents. He has co-led research spanning health system evaluations, large-scale research programmes, and educational innovations for healthcare professionals, including the development of AI and digital health competencies.
Research projects: Professor Car welcomes candidates from diverse disciplines – including medicine, engineering, and the social and behavioral sciences – who are interested in digital health (e.g., wearables and health apps), health data science and AI, and population health, with a particular focus on maternal and child health.
