Get to Know ASEF Mentors – Dr. Jure Zupan

October 14, 2022

Meet our mentor in the field of physics, dr. Jure Zupan. Dr. Zupan is a Professor at the University of Cincinnati OH, USA. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Ljubljana in 2002. Dr. Zupan has been a postdoctoral fellow at the Technion (Israel), Carnegie Mellon University (USA), and CERN (Switzerland). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the popular science web portal & magazine Kvarkadabra, coauthor of four popular science books, and participant in a collective blog.

Dr. Zupan is interested in theoretical high-energy physics. His research projects focus on theoretical particle physics with emphasis on rare processes involving flavor-changing neutral currents, properties of dark matter in both direct and indirect detection, and collider physics, including Higgs physics. The main common themes are searches beyond the standard model, uses of effective field theories, and applications of machine learning.

A list of all mentors hosting Slovenian students abroad can be found here. ASEF mentors are highly motivated researchers who want to pass on their knowledge to younger generations and together with ASEF create a better future.

Applications for ASEF Research Abroad Fellowship are open until October 23, 2022.
