
Call for Applications: Dr. Uroš Seljak Award 2025
For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Ljubljana and the ASEF Institute announce the Dr. Uroš Seljak Award. The USD 10,000 award aims to encourage and support scientific publications by undergraduate and master’s students in Slovenia and to strengthen mentoring in research.
Who is Dr. Uroš Seljak?
Dr. Uroš Seljak is a professor in the Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley, a graduate of the University of Ljubljana, and a mentor at the American-Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF). In 2021, he received the Gruber Prize, one of the world’s most prestigious scientific awards in cosmology, presented by the Gruber Foundation at Yale University. He was awarded $500,000, along with two other recipients, for his significant contributions to methods essential for studying and understanding the origins of the universe.
Dr. Seljak has dedicated part of his prize money to establish a charitable fund that will annually support the best scientific publications by Slovenian students through the Dr. Uroš Seljak Award.
Who can Apply?
Candidates for the award must be nominated by an individual who holds the title of university teacher or academic researcher. The nominee must:
- Have been enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s program at a Slovenian university at the time of conducting the research leading to the scientific publication.
- Be the author or co-author of a scientific publication that has been published or officially accepted for publication.
- Not have previously received the Dr. Uroš Seljak Award in previous calls.
