Uhan Sara

Sara completed her bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at the University of Ljubljana. After her undergraduate internship at the Umeå University in Sweden (Nordic EMBL), she continued with a master’s program in Biochemistry as a DAAD scholar at the University of Bonn, Germany. At present she is working on her master’s thesis in the field of mucosal immunology at the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden. She is passionate about cancer biology and aspires to continue with her research work in a translational setting. Sara will join Dr. Klementina Fon Tacer’s research group at the Texas Tech University, where she will work towards uncovering novel mechanisms that evolved to protect mammalian germ cells against stress and further defining their role in cancer.

Sara likes to battle the frustration caused by occasional failed experiments known to every molecular biologist with evening runs by the Elbe and large amounts of tea. She strives to challenge her “status quo” by learning foreign languages, choosing travel destinations, reading non-fiction and discovering hidden street art.
