Hladnik Anžej

Anžej is a fifth-year medical student at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana. He is interested in both pre-clinical sciences and clinical medicine, with aspirations of working in translational research. This is why visiting dr. Matija B. Peterlin at the University of California, San Francisco, will be an invaluable experience for his professional and personal growth.

In the course of the fellowship, Anžej is hoping to continue his work on micro RNAs and microvesicles and their biomarker potential for reservoirs of latent infection with HIV-1 in the human body. For his research work, he was awarded with a Faculty Prešeren award in 2017 and Krka Award in 2018. Anžej spends a fair amount of his spare time as a managing editor of a quarterly medical journal Medicinski razgledi, run entirely by medical students. Apart from his daily obligations, he makes sure to find time for himself, his friends and family, enjoying hiking and exploring the roads less travelled, as well as reading, with a particular interest in history.
