The POP Science project has been launched: Popularization of science to reduce brain drain in Slovenia
The POP Science project, whose main goal is to reduce brain drain and strengthen scientific culture in Slovenia, officially launched in February 2025. The project brings together key partners who will work together to improve the accessibility of scientific content, connect researchers and young people, and contribute to the development of an innovative environment in the country.
The POP Science project brings together four important organizations working in the fields of science, education and technology:
- ASEF (American-Slovenian Educational Foundation), which connects Slovenian researchers around the world and provides them with access to international opportunities,
- EUROPEAN CULTURAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL CENTER MARIBOR, a social enterprise that provides non-formal education and promotes science among young people,
- Slovenian Artificial Intelligence Society (SLAIS), which promotes research and transfer of artificial intelligence into technology and industry,
- The Slovenian Society INFORMATIKA, which professionalizes the field of informatics and organizes important professional events.
Over the next two years, the POP Science project will carry out:
- Analysis and research to improve tailored approaches to popularizing science,
- Establishment of a digital portal to facilitate collaboration between researchers, young people and industry,
- Educational activities in the form of workshops, competitions and mentoring,
- A National Science Festival to contribute to increasing interest in science among young people,
- Networking and advocacy campaigns aimed at improving the status of science in Slovenia.
Target groups and impact: The project will involve young people (primary school students, secondary school students and students), researchers, educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and key decision-makers in the field of science.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Public Administration of the Republic of Slovenia within the framework of the Public Call for Proposals for the Development and Professionalization of Non-Governmental Organizations and Volunteering 2024.
With the POP Science project, we are building a future where science in Slovenia will be more accessible, more attractive, and more connected to young people and industry.
