The ASEF Institute Recognized as a Best Practice Example in New Publication on Transatlantic Mobility
Ljubljana, September 12, 2025 – Yesterday, a new publication titled Transatlantic Mobility in Higher Education and Research: A Cornerstone of Transatlantic Relations was presented at the EAIE (European Association for International Education) conference in Gothenburg, Sweden. We are extremely proud that this influential report, prepared by leading experts from the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), highlights the ASEF Institute as a key example of best practice in promoting transatlantic academic mobility.
The publication emphasizes the importance of exchange between the U.S. and Europe and offers recommendations for strengthening collaboration in higher education and research. The ASEF Institute is mentioned in the report as a successful model that, through its programs, contributes to deepening ties between Slovenia and the United States.
ASEF functions not just as an organization but as a model of what is possible when mobility is accompanied by long-term engagement and values-based programming. Its approach demonstrates that highly educated Slovenians abroad are not a loss to be mourned but a resource to be activated—as advisors, mentors, policy contributors, and knowledge partners. Through initiatives like ASEF, Slovenia can take a leadership role in redefining what it means to be part of a global research community in the 21st century: one where mobility is not a one-way departure but a continuous exchange.
The EAIE conference is one of the largest events in international education. The collaboration between IIE, DAAD, and other leading organizations confirms that transatlantic mobility is crucial for fostering innovation and deepening cultural understanding.
