The 5th Annual ASEF Summer Picnic
On the warm evening of August 23rd 2024, ASEF Junior Fellows gathered in Ljubljana for the 5th annual ASEF picnic. The picnic aims to bring together fellows of different generations, allowing them to connect in a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere.
This year, sixteen fellows from four different generations gathered in Tivoli for an evening of fun, good conversation and games. The evening began with us snacking on an array of homemade goods as well as treats from abroad. While enjoying each other’s company, we were sharing British candy and Slovenian cookies. This year’s fellows from Argentina kindly brought their home country’s signature drink, yerba mate – a tea-like drink from the plant of the same name which originates in South America.
Besides indulging in a variety of treats, sharing experiences from different research programs and comparing favorite travel spots in Slovenia, the group also enjoyed an intense game of spikeball!
Bautista Kraševec is an ASEF Junior Fellow from Argentina, currently enjoying the final week of his research visit in Slovenia. Here’s what he had to say about the picnic:
“I really liked that I had the chance to meet fellows from different generations. I also met one of the former fellows from Argentina and it was amazing to connect over our shared experiences. I enjoy sharing my culture with other people while also learning about their own, so the picnic was perfect for me. Hopefully, I’ll be back to join some of the future picnics, too!”
We’re glad we had the chance to meet for the 5th year to strengthen the diverse ASEF community and we hope to continue this tradition in the years to come. Thank you to all the fellows who joined and we hope to see you soon!
