Slovenian Community in Tucumán: use and preservation of the Slovene language

June 07, 2022

ASEF Junior Fellow Ana Malvina Porcelo Žakelj today gave a lecture for the Fran Ramovš Institute for the Slovene Language ZRC SAZU, where she is conducting her 10-week research visit as part of the ASEF AJF Visit Slovenia program, entitled ‘Slovenian Community in Tucumán: use and preservation of the Slovene language.’

Ana Malvina presented the life and work of the Slovene community in Tucumán, a province in northwestern Argentina, where a group of Slovene families settled in the 1970s. Members of the community still meet, have a Slovene school and, to a greater or lesser extent, use the Slovene language in their daily lives.
