June 15, 2023 | 7:00 pm | Club Room at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana (Kardeljeva ploščad 17, 1000 Ljubljana) and Zoom

Cyber risk assessment and management issues: What risk are we exposed to? How much would a cyber attack cost us?

The American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) is organizing a new popular science lecture entitled Assessment and Management of Cyber Risk as part of the ASEF Speaker Series. The lecture will be held by prof. dr. Sergeja Slapničar.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, June 15, starting at 7 p.m. in a hybrid version, in the Club Room at the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana (Kardeljeva ploščad 17, 1000 Ljubljana) and via Zoom. Pre-registration for the lecture must be done by May 18 at 6 p.m. at the latest. When registering for the event, the type of participation is selected (at the location or via Zoom). All registered participants via Zoom will receive a Zoom link to their email address before the event.

ABOUT THE LECTURE

According to many studies, cyber risk is one of the five most important risks in the modern digitized business of organizations. Although organizations spend millions of euros to defend against cyber attacks, IT and security managers who manage cyber risk, as well as organizational CEOs and supervisory boards, find it very difficult to answer the questions: What kind of risk are we exposed to? How much would a cyber attack cost us? How likely is he? And if we have invested a few million euros in defense against a cyber attack, by how much have the consequences or probability of such an attack been reduced. Sergeja Slapničar from the University of Queensland in Australia is researching these questions. She will present cyber risk measurement techniques and its management processes based on normative recommendations and academic research on the state of practice.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

Sergeja Slapničar is an associate professor of accounting at the Business School of the University of Queensland. She investigates the effects of accountability, performance measurement, and incentives on employee motivation, risk-taking, and cognition; more recently, she has been interested in how this is used in cybersecurity risk management. She has published in accounting, finance and psychology journals. She held directorial and advisory roles in several entities of public interest, was a member of the board of the Agency for Public Auditing of the Republic of Slovenia and president of the Slovenian Dispute Resolution Authority.

ASEF connects scientists and academics all over the world.

The ASEF Speaker Series project is made possible with the financial support of the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad and the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth.
