ABSTRACT
Mortality and the elixir of eternal life have stirred the human mind for as long as we can remember. Throughout history, there have been countless myths and legends about finding this kind of elixir, as well as quite a few more or less dangerous practices that offered the impossible. With the advancement of science and medicine, increasingly sensitive analytical devices, and the growing ability to computer process enormous amounts of data from complex human biology, we are getting closer to a real understanding of the processes and mechanisms of aging. The most surprising discovery of the last ~ 10 years is that we find that mortality and aging may not be such a one-way and inevitable path, and that the “elixir”, which will not be just one magic golden drop, but a very complex approach to systems biology and regenerative medicine, may even become a real possibility and no longer a myth and legend even in the time of our generation.
