ASEF Speaker Series: Marko Grobelnik

The American-Slovenian Educational Foundation (ASEF) is organizing a new popular science lecture as part of the ASEF Speaker Series. The lecture will be given by Marko Grobelnik on the topic “Observation of the development of artificial intelligence in real time”.

The lecture will take place on May 23rd 2024, in a hybrid setting: at the Faculty of Computer Science and Informatics (lecture room P20) and via Zoom. Please register for the lecture by Thursday, Maj 23rd at 7PM. When registering, choose the type of participation (live or online). All registered participants will receive a Zoom link to their email address before the event.

ABOUT THE LECTURE

At the “Jožef Štefan” Institute and in cooperation with the international organization OECD, the AI laboratory is developing a system for real-time monitoring of the development of artificial intelligence. In doing so, they use a variety of data that show the development of innovations, patents, the labor market, investments, perception, media, incidents, politics and more. The lecture will walk us through the ecosystem in which the field of artificial intelligence functions. We will discuss the positive and potentially negative developments in artificial intelligence.

ABOUT THE LECTURER

Marko Grobelnik is a researcher in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Focused areas of expertise are Machine Learning, Data/Text/Web Mining, Network Analysis, Semantic Technologies, Deep Text Understanding, and Data Visualization.  Marko co-leads Artificial Intelligence Lab at Jozef Stefan Institute, cofounded UNESCO International Research Center on AI (IRCAI), and is the CEO of Quintelligence.com specialized in solving complex AI tasks for the commercial world. He collaborates with major European academic institutions and major industries such as Bloomberg, British Telecom, European Commission, Microsoft Research, New York Times, OECD.

Marko is the co-author of several books, co-founder of several start-ups and is/was involved into over 50 EU funded research projects in various fields of Artificial Intelligence. Significant organisational activities include Marko being general chair of LREC2016 and TheWebConf2021 conferences. Marko represents Slovenia in OECD AI Committee (AIGO/ONEAI), in Council of Europe Committee on AI (CAHAI/CAI), NATO (DARB), and Global Partnership on AI (GPAI). In 2016 Marko became Digital Champion of Slovenia at European Commission.

The program is co-financed by the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad and the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth.
