ASEF Junior Fellow Ema Odra Raščan: A Research Journey at Iowa State University
ASEF Fellow Ema Odra Raščan, a doctoral student at the University of Ljubljana, recently concluded a research trip at Iowa State University. Under the mentorship of Alenka Poplin, PhD, Associate Professor at the Community and Regional Planning Department, Ema’s research focused on rational ignorance in urban planning. She actively participated in Prof. Poplin’s lectures on geogames for civil engagement and the game studies learning community, which fueled her interest in serious games for training purposes.
Beyond her research, Ema embraced the vibrant university culture by rooting for the Cyclones during the Fall 2024 season, making cherished memories at various sporting events from US football to basketball and volleyball.
Ema expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to research at Iowa State University and for the invaluable mentorship she received from Alenka. This experience marked a significant milestone in her research journey, contributing both to her academic expertise and personal growth. Together, Ema and Prof. Poplin look forward to further collaborations and continuing to spread Cyclone power far beyond Ames.
