ASEF Fellows Visit the Slovenian National Assembly and Explore the Capital

June 09, 2025 | 11:00 am | Ljubljana

On Monday, June 9, 2025, ASEF Junior Fellows spent the day in the heart of Ljubljana as part of the ASEF Visit Slovenia program. They visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia and explored the cultural, historical, and scientific significance of the Slovenian capital through a guided city tour.

At the National Assembly, the fellows were welcomed by Lucija Tacer, a Member of Parliament, Vice President of the youth wing Svoboda Mladi, and an ASEF Junior Fellow 2022. The fellows introduced themselves, sharing where they come from and what they study, which led to a rich and engaging conversation with Lucija. Together, they discussed differences between the political systems of Slovenia, the United States, and Argentina, youth voting rights, activities of MPs, and Lucija’s personal and political journey.

The visit continued with a guided tour of the parliament building, where fellows viewed the main assembly chamber, the famous fresco by Slavko Pengov, and watched a short film that offered insights into the structure and functioning of the National Assembly.

After enjoying a traditional Slovenian lunch, the day concluded with a guided walk through Ljubljana, which allowed the fellows to deepen their understanding of the city’s historical and cultural heritage. Through stories, architecture, and political history, the group gained a better appreciation of the city hosting this year’s generation of ASEF Fellows.

The day was marked by enthusiasm, new knowledge, and meaningful connections — a memorable experience for all involved.

This event provided fellows with valuable insights into Slovenia’s political landscape, opportunities to engage with the local environment, and a chance to further strengthen bonds within the ASEF community.
