ASEF Fellow, Blaž Škrlj, Lectured on ‘Automation of Machine Learning’
Blaž Škrlj, a doctoral student of computer science at the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School and ASEF Fellow 2020, lectured on ‘Automation of machine learning’ as part of the Young Minds.
Blaž introduced us to the theory and practical examples of machine learning that occurs today in most scientific disciplines; from biology and physics to mechanical engineering and sociology. He outlined the beginning of the development of machine learning, which has been advancing faster and faster in recent years, mainly due to the increasing computing power.
In the second part of the lecture, he presented the greatest achievements in the field of machine learning, its use and potential consequences for the research / industrial sphere in the coming years. The examples he presented range from driving autonomous vehicles to systems that have learned to play Atari computer games on their own. With the development of new technologies, especially artificial intelligence, the practical application of automated machine learning still has a lot of room.
The event, which was attended by more than 70 listeners, was organized by ASEF and the Logatec Students’ Club. The operation of the latter was presented by Sonja Sekirnik Cergonja, and the entire event was moderated by ASEF Junior Fellow of the 2021 generation Ajda Krišelj.
