Outstanding Achievement: Živa Alif Receives the Prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” Award
We are immensely proud to announce that Živa Alif, a 2023 ASEF Fellow, has been named one of the three national recipients of the prestigious L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” award. This recognition is a testament to her academic excellence and her innovative approach to some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
Bridging Disciplines for a Sustainable Future
Živa is an interdisciplinary researcher at the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana. Her work is rooted in the belief that effective nature conservation cannot happen in a vacuum. It requires a deep understanding of human behavior, economic incentives, and psychological drivers. By merging economics, psychology, and conservation science, Živa is developing solutions that are not only scientifically sound but also socially and economically viable.
The ASEF Connection: From Slovenia to Australia
As part of her ASEF Fellowship, Živa furthered her research journey at the University of Queensland, Australia. Under the mentorship of the world-renowned expert Prof. Sara Dolničar, she explored how innovative behavioral interventions can lead to more sustainable outcomes. This international exchange underscores ASEF’s mission: fostering global cooperation to tackle global challenges.
A Growing Community of Excellence
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Živa and her fellow awardees, Dana Marinič and Nina Murks. Their dedication to science and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge serve as a beacon for the next generation of women in STEM.
The L’Oréal-UNESCO “For Women in Science” program has been recognizing outstanding female researchers in Slovenia since 2006, highlighting the crucial role women play in scientific progress.
Congratulations, Živa, on this remarkable milestone!
