Exploring Inclusion and Growth: Nadia Jakos’ Visit to Slovenia
Nadia Jakos, a psychopedagogue from Buenos Aires, Argentina, recently completed a transformative 10-week research visit at the Special Education Centre Janez Levec in Ljubljana, under the mentorship of Tamara Lipičar.
During her stay, Nadia actively participated in various departments, gaining a holistic understanding of the institution’s work. She had the opportunity to collaborate on numerous tasks, engage with skilled professionals, and connect with the remarkable individuals who benefit from the centre’s services.
The Janez Levec Centre encompasses a diverse range of units, each with a unique role but united in their shared mission: fostering inclusion and creating opportunities for individuals with diverse needs. These units include special education elementary schools, inclusive classes in mainstream schools, specialized education departments, a home for children with special needs, an educational centre, a mobile service department, a projects department, and a labour and employment centre.
Reflecting on her experience, Nadia shared:
“It was an incredible and deeply enriching journey. I had the chance to witness and engage with diverse realities through a wide range of activities. Working alongside children, adolescents, and adults allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. The warm reception I received at each centre made me feel welcome and valued. I am profoundly grateful for everything I experienced.”
Beyond her work at the centre, Nadia also reconnected with her Slovenian heritage. She spent time with family and friends living in Slovenia, explored the country’s breathtaking landscapes, and immersed herself in its rich culture. Her visit was a memorable blend of professional growth and personal discovery, leaving her with lasting impressions of Slovenia’s beauty and inclusivity.
