Vesna van Midden discusses research findings that could make a positive difference to the treatment and care of Parkinson’s patients
On Thursday, 14 December, the Faculty of Medicine in Ljubljana hosted the last ASEF Young Minds Lecture in the year 2023, organized by ASEF together with the SiNAPSA association. The lecture was given by Vesna Marija van Midden, an ASEF 2020 junior fellow and a young researcher at the Neurology Clinic in Ljubljana.
She commented on the findings, stating: “The effects of non-invasive electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve in Parkinson’s disease could potentially represent a new method of treating the symptoms of Parkinson’s patients. Acutely, patients showed improvements in walking speed, angular velocity of the arms and stride length, but we don’t know if this effect is permanent.”
The next lecture that will kick off the ASEF Young Minds cycle in 2024 will be revealed soon. Stay tuned!
The project is implemented with the support of the Office for Youth and the Office for Slovenians Abroad.
