Peter Krajnik is a Professor of Manufacturing Technology at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he serves as Director of the Centre for Metal Cutting Research (MCR). He is also Co-Director of Advanced Manufacturing Solutions for Next Generation Powertrain (Centre X), a joint research initiative involving Chalmers, KTH, Volvo Group, and Scania. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2007. Before joining Chalmers in 2015, he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and worked in industrial research at Scania. He is a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP).
Research projects:
Machining and precision finishing technologies, with particular emphasis on metal cutting and abrasive processes. We combine experimental investigations, physics-based modeling, material characterization, and data-driven approaches to understand and optimize machining operations. Our research also addresses post-processing of additively manufactured components, process fluids and technical cleanliness, as well as sensor-based process monitoring and AI-driven digital twins across a broad range of industrial manufacturing applications.
