Matija Šraj is an award-winning Slovenian-Australian screenwriter based in Melbourne. He is the creator and writer of several television series currently in development, and previously worked as an assistant on top-tier shows for global streaming platforms and networks, including Paramount+, Amazon, Disney+, BBC, as well as Australia’s ABC and Stan.

Before dedicating himself to screenwriting, Matija worked in politics for the Australian Greens. His roles included communications advisor to senators and serving as one of the party’s key strategists during the successful 2017 marriage equality campaign. He holds degrees in Political Science and Law from the University of Melbourne and completed an academic exchange at the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po). He has also worked as a mentor at an Indigenous school in the remote Australian outback and is a qualified swimming and fitness instructor.

Matija grew up speaking Slovenian with his Slovenian father and continues to maintain close ties with family and friends in Slovenia. Through his creative and professional work within the ASEF Fellowship Visit Slovenia program, he is eager to further deepen his connection to Slovenia.
