Marko Fišer
Bio:
My name is Marko Fišer and I am currently a second-year master’s student in Geography and History at the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor. I completed my undergraduate studies at the same institution. Alongside my studies, I serve as a board member and treasurer of the Maribor Geography Students’ Association (DŠGM), and I occasionally assist younger students with Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Throughout my academic journey, I have been passionate about geography and history, actively participating in various cultural events and competitions. At university, I developed a particular interest in GIS. In my free time, I really enjoy playing football, skiing, reading fantasy books, cooking, and spending time with friends.
Projects:
For my master’s thesis, I will focus on the issue of social segregation in the cities of Maribor (Slovenia) and Ames (USA) in relation to the increasing thermal burden on urban structures caused by climate change. By utilizing spatial analytics and climate data, we aim to develop future scenarios of thermal stress and assess the vulnerability of different social groups. In the final stage, the results will be used to create an educational game aimed at promoting sustainable spatial planning and raising awareness of climate change. A research visit abroad will greatly contribute to the development of my master’s thesis, and I also look forward to broadening my horizons.
