Maja Kalin

Bio:

Maja Kalin is an undergraduate law student at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana, and a recipient of the University of Ljubljana Award for achievements in extracurricular activities. Her experience includes a traineeship at the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, an internship at a large law firm, and a study visit in the cabinet of Judge Jan Passer at the Court of Justice of the European Union, alongside her participation in research groups and expert bodies in the fields of law and higher education. In moot court competitions, she has achieved notable success, including third place and the Best Oralist Award at the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition 2024, as well as first place and the Best Oralist Award at the Central and Eastern European Moot Court Competition 2025. She is the author of two articles published in Javna uprava and Pravna praksa, and has long been actively involved in student representation as President of the Student Council of the Faculty of Law, a member of the Faculty Senate, and a delegate to the European Students’ Union.

Her research interests include European human rights law and European Union law, in particular the rule of law, fundamental rights, EU constitutional and procedural law, EU competition law, and state aid law. Her work is characterised by volunteering, mentoring students, and actively connecting law with broader societal issues.

Projects:

Within the ASEF Junior Fellowship programme, and under the mentorship of Professor Verica Trstenjak, she will conduct research at the Luxembourg Centre for European Law of the University of Luxembourg on current developments in EU law. Her research seeks to combine the identification of practical legal problems with institutional practice and social responsibility.
