Tina Logonder: How does structural biology contribute to understanding cancer?
The American Slovenian Educational Foundation, in collaboration with Gimnazija Škofja Loka, is organizing a popular science lecture on Thursday, October 24, at 6 p.m. The lecture will be given by Tina Logonder, a young researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, UL and ASEF Junior Fellow 2023. The lecture is entitled “How does structural biology contribute to understanding cancer?” and will be held at the Gimnazija škofja Loka (Podlubnik 1b, 4220 Škofja Loka).
REGISTRATION
To attend the lecture, please register by October 24, no later than 5 p.m.
ABOUT THE LECTURE
Cancer causes approximately 10 million deaths annually, making research of cancer treatments extremely important. Understanding the signaling pathways that lead to cancer is crucial for developing new therapies. During the lecture, Tina Logonder will present her research of a protein complex, the structural determination of which could shed light on the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. This could potentially enable the development of new, more effective therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment.
ABOUT THE LECTURER
Tina Logonder holds a master’s degree in biochemistry. She is currently a young researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana, where she is pursuing her PhD under the mentorship of Assist. Prof. Dr. Aljaž Gaber. She is focused on the structural and functional characterization of a signaling protein complex involved in cancer development. She began her research work in structural biology as part of her doctoral studies during an ASEF research visit of Prof. Dr. Boštjan Kobe at the University of Queensland in Australia.
ASEF YOUNG MINDS
ASEF Young Minds is a series of popular science lectures, which encourages young people to present their research work and experience gained within the framework of the ASEF fellowship program in a way that is accessible and understandable to the general public. In the project, ASEF connects with local organizations that operate in the places where the lecturers come from. The aim of cooperation is to connect and integrate young learners into the local Slovenian environment.
ASEF connects and unites Slovenian scientists and academics all over the world.
The project is supported by the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth and the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad.
