Call for Applications for the Dr. Uroš Seljak Award 2024
The University of Ljubljana and ASEF are launching the third call for applications for the Dr. Uroš Seljak Award, which is intended to encourage and support scientific publications by students in first- and second-level study programs in the Republic of Slovenia and to promote mentoring of students.
Dr. Uroš Seljak, Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley, a mentor at the American-Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF), and an alumnus of the University of Ljubljana (UL), was awarded the Gruber Prize in 2021. This is one of the world’s most prestigious scientific prizes in cosmology, awarded by the Gruber Foundation of Yale University. He was awarded the USD 500,000 prize, along with two other winners, for their significant contributions to methods that are key to the study and understanding of the origin of the universe.
With his part of the prize, Dr. Seljak has established a charitable fund to support the best scientific publications by Slovenian students each year in the form of an award of USD 10,000.
Only individuals who hold the title of higher education teacher or researcher may nominate a candidate for the award. The nominee must have been enrolled in a first or second cycle of studies at one of the universities in the Republic of Slovenia at the time of the research work leading to the scientific publication; the nominee’s scientific work must have been published or accepted for publication; the nominee must not have been the recipient of the Dr. Uroš Seljak Award under previous calls for applications.
The deadline for applications is April 15, 2024, at 23.59.
